Last Wednesday (May 18), twenty-three students graduated and celebrated the graduation of the 12th class at Aprendiz Escola Sylvamo de Mogi Guaçu (SP). The Aprendiz Escola Sylvamo project – initiated by Sylvamo in 2010 and developed in partnership with the Iochpe Foundation – offers professional education courses for young people from socially vulnerable families living in the municipalities where Sylvamo operates, reaching the communities nearby to the company’s units. In 2021, the course had more than 100 volunteer educators and 23 mentors, in addition to 20 organizational volunteers from Instituto Chamex.

The graduation was online and brought together students and their families. The occasion was opened by Luciana Huneke, CEO of Instituto Chamex, and with the speech of the director of manufacturing at the Mogi Guaçu unit (SP), Alcides Júnior. The graduates received the diploma of Production Assistant in the Pulp and Paper Processing Industry – with certificate issued by the Iochpe Foundation and by the Federal Technological University of Paraná – (UTFPR) valid throughout the country and recognized by both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labor.

During the course, the young people participate in theoretical and practical classes so that learning occurs in a broad and comprehensive manner, going through all the real processes of pulp and paper production. In addition, behavioral competencies are developed, forming qualified, aware, and responsible professionals: “Our commitment as a company is to improve the lives of people and the communities where we live, assuming accountability for our planet, our forests, and the performance of all our professionals”, said Alcides Junior, Manufacturing Director.

The project also contributes actively to obtain the first job for students, whether in or outside of Sylvamo, increasing the chance to be hired: “It is with great pride that I share with you the results we had this year: of the 23 students in this class, 14 were hired by Sylvamo and others are already working in the market”, Junior announced, during his speech”.

In addition, continuing the objective of Instituto Chamex to, through education, create opportunities for young people on the labor market, in April 2022, 16 new apprentices were hired in partnership with Sylvamo, at the Luiz Antônio unit (SP). In May, 24 apprentices started their course and activities in the company, at the Mogi Guaçu unit (SP). This year a partnership was entered with SENAI (National Service for Industrial Learning). Soon, the project will be extended to Três Lagoas (MS): “Our focus is to invest in education projects that encourage young people to take lead in their careers and transform their trajectories through education. This year, we completed 15 years of existence, with investments of over R$14 million until 2021 in sundry projects, with more than 360 thousand people impacted throughout Brazil”, said proudly Luciana Huneke, CEO of Instituto Chamex.

Professionalization forms protagonist citizens and favors the development of local communities and the society, generating knowledge, inspiration, and promising opportunities. Instituto Chamex largely fulfills the important role of promoting education, innovation, creativity, and culture. After all, creativity transforms education. . And education transforms the world 😉 .
