Mogi Guaçu, October 1, 2021– Focusing on the production of printing and writing paper, Sylvamo becomes as of today an autonomous company, and Brazil gains an even greater relevance in the company’s global strategy. The new name conveys the company’s connection with trees. Sylvamo combines the Latin word for forest, “silva,” and Portuguese words “I love,” “amo,” which combined have the meaning of “love for forests.”

The change goes beyond just the company name. As an autonomous company, Sylvamo will enjoy greater strategic flexibility, with a strong leadership and teams, the best paper mills in competitive regions of Brazil, the United States and Europe, and iconic brands such as Chamex, Chamequinho and Chambril, that contribute to creae long-term value for our customers and shareholders.

“We believe that paper is committed with a role to educate, communicate and entertain. Paper connects us and has a lasting bond with renewable natural resources,” says Rodrigo Davoli, Sylvamo CEO for Latin America and Global company VP. “Our purpose is to produce the paper that people need in a responsible and sustainable way,” he finishes.

To be the paper company of the world, as the best employer, supplier and investment, Sylvamo established its business strategy focused on three main fronts: commercial excellence, operational excellence, and financial discipline. The combination of these elements helped Sylvamo to reach its objectives and leverage its growth with responsibility, and agility at low cost.

Sylvamo also began trading its shares on the New York Stock Exchange today (NYSE: SLVM). With global headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, the company employs over 7,000 professionals and operates seven mills, six of them fully integrated, producing 2.8 million tons of uncoated paper and 580,000 tons of market pulp and serving more than 600 customers worldwide.

In Brazil, Sylvamo employs about 3,000 professionals. With three tree industrial units, located in Mogi Guaçu (SP), Luiz Antônio (SP) and Três Lagoas (MS), Sylvamo produces yearly over 1 million tons of uncoated paper, managing over 100,000 hectares of eucalyptus forests and native vegetation in the state of São Paulo, which provide a sustainable source of high-quality wood fiber.

By reformulating its institutional identity, Sylvamo also strengthens the company’s already consistent ESG strategy. “The future of paper deserves a company committed to the success of the entire ecosystem: from the forests we love and communities we live in, to those who trust our paper,” celebrates Davoli.
