Instituto Chamex, in partnership with Redação Online, will grant an award to outstanding students and teachers from Brazilian public schools in the contest. The project is aimed at high school students from state or municipal public schools throughout Brazil. The initiative’s main objectives are to encourage Brazilian students to improve their writing skills and their taste for reading, as well as to prepare them for the National High School Exam (ENEM) and inspire them to create their own stories in the literary universe and in life. This year’s proposed theme is:

“If you had the opportunity to write one page of a book, how and what would you write about the post-pandemic world?”

Registration is free and can be done until 08/31/2022, on the website: concursochamex.redacaonline.com.br. After registering, students will have access to different contents with exclusive tips on text production. The participants’ writings can be done on Chamex paper, scanned and attached to the site – or can be written directly on the online channel. The awards for students, teachers and schools that stood out in the project will occur as follows:

  • The student with best score in the country: will be granted a R$1,500.00 shopping voucher for the purchase of books and educational materials;
  • The student with the best score from each state: will win a R$500.00 gift certificate for the purchase of books and didactic materials;
  • One hundred students with best ranking in the contest: will get free access to a plan of video classes and text corrections on the site Redação Online;
  • The 3 schools with most students participating: each one will receive 10 boxes of A4 Chamex paper sheets and R$5,000.00 in books;
  • Twenty teachers with the highest number of participating students: will receive an online training course for correcting writings pursuant the ENEM model and a R$300.00 shopping voucher each for the purchase of books and didactic material.

With national validity (26 states of the Federation and the Federal District), the project has had a positive impact on the lives of thousands of teenagers, even in the face of the negative impact caused by the suspension of classroom classes during the critical period of the pandemic. In this challenging scenario, the Writing Contest has adapted itself – in the last two years – to continue contributing actively to the education of students.

According to Mariana Claudio, executive manager of Instituto Chamex, this initiative – in addition to promoting development in writing – strengthens students’ ability to analyze society critically, pushing them to function as active citizens and agents of change: “The partnership with Redação Online expands our reach, impacting ever more young people, with the distinguishing students’ and teachers’ preparation feature for the contest, going far beyond merely the award. Our goal is to empower young people and transform realities through education,” says Mariana.

In the 2021 edition, over 40,000 students from public schools participated in the contest, becoming for another year the largest national writing contest once more. The reports from those who already took part in previous editions are encouraging: “Participating in the Instituto Chamex Writing Contest was a unique experience and one that I will keep with me for all my life. I was motivated to participate by my Portuguese language teacher and by my family. Thanks to the contest, I was able to improve my writing skills and learned to be more confident in myself,” says Ana Lívia, 3rd place in the 46th contest.

The correction criteria of the Writing Contest are defined according to the standards established by ENEM itself, taking in consideration the evaluation of different competencies that involve the candidates’ skills and knowledge. At the end of the process, the three students with the best scores, in addition to being awarded prizes, will be invited to participate in an online panel to present their consulted references, intentions, and perspectives on the proposed theme. After this last stage, the grand national winner of the contest will be selected. The results will be announced on October 10th, 2022, at: concursochamex.redacaonline.com.br.
