english to connect (e2c)
Through its association with the Mais Unidos Group, the Institute has the opportunity to take part in other projects offered by the association. One of them is the E2C (English to Connect) program, a project aimed at young black and indigenous professionals and/or entrepreneurs to learn and improve their English language skills with a focus on conversation, comprising 210 training hours. In addition to the weekly six-hours classes, the students are mentored by a volunteer professional for an exchange in English, thus increasing their networking and developing soft skills.
Since its inception, 696 young people from all over Brazil took part in the program, and through the Institute, we encourage the participation and engagement of professionals to provide mentoring and conversation initiatives with the chosen young people.
In 2023, in partnership with Grupo Mais Unidos, we carried out the E2C For the Future Initiative, which was implemented on a pilot basis at the state school Profª Zenaide Franco Faria Melo.
The aim was to offer English lessons and conversation classes to vulnerable students in a school in Mogi Guaçu which benefitted 30 middle-school students. In addition to the classes, our Sylvamo professionals from Brazil and the US were invited to participate as volunteers in the conversation classes offered by the project.
By executing the program, we encourage cultural exchange, language exchange and strengthen the culture of corporate volunteering.
