Instituto Chamex announces winners of the 4th Education with Citizenship Contest

See the winners of the 4th Education with Citizenship Contest for ONGs organized by Instituto Chamex. Each victorious ONG will receive a check for BRL 35,000.

Instituto Chamex, in partnership with the Institute for the Development of Social Investment (IDIS), announced the winners of the 4ª edition of the Education with Citizenship Contest for each Brazilian ONG who were selected as winners. The prize of BRL35,000 for each winner is intended to support the implementation of their social projects. This support aims to promote social transformation in the Country through education, by encouraging organizations – in a financially practical way – to cope with various educational challenges through innovative and impacting educational projects. Organizations all over the Country who enrolled, had the opportunity to take part in the selection process, free of charge.

Ever since its first edition in 2021, the Education with Citizenship Contest became an important initiative to promote high-impact educational projects. With a total investment of BRL450,000, the initiative already benefited 15 NGOs with direct and indirect impacts on more than 10,000 people in various Brazilian regions. The 2024 edition continued its tradition for support of inspiring projects. This is a unique opportunity for the winning institutions to enhance their role as agents of change in their communities. Based on the criteria and requirements set out in the regulations for the 4th Contest, the awarded projects were as shown below:

  • Brincadoria Social – Oásis de Sonhos (Social Play – Oasis of Dreams): This project, conceived by the ONG Oasis de Sonhos, focuses on the training of young leaders and revamping infrastructures in public schools in Goiânia (GO). Integrating education and entrepreneurship, the initiative gives young people an opportunity to work on the physical improvement of their schools, while also developing leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Estações de Leitura – Instituto Pró-Saber (Reading Stations – Pró-Saber Institute): The Pró-Saber Institute will implement the Reading Stations Project, which consists of creating mobile libraries in public schools in the Paraisópolis region (SP). The proposal aims to stimulate children’s reading habits and offer interactive leisure and education alternatives – away from the screens.
  • Luz e Paz na Educação – Projeto Social Luz e Paz (Light and Peace in Education – Social Project Light and Peace): This Project aims to offer literacy classes, psycho-pedagogical and neuro-psychomotor assessments to socially vulnerable children and young people in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The initiative seeks to improve the academic skills of the involved by providing adequate emotional support.
  • Orientar Para Incluir – Associação de Pais do Espectro Autista de Ubatuba (Orient to Include – Parents´ Association of the Autism Spectrum of Ubatuba): This Projects from the Ubatuba Autism Spectrum Parents Association, aims to welcome and train teachers to promote inclusive education for students with autism. The project includes training meetings for educators from public schools in Ubatuba (SP).
  • Ponto de Leitura e Cordel dos Encantos – Casa de Cultura, Esporte e Cidadania Dona Joana: The Cordel Literature Enchantment Project will be a Reading Point at the Dona Joana Culture, Sport and Citizenship House, promoting multiple actions to encourage reading, training in technology, artistic workshops and pre-university courses, with the aim to raise students’ understanding of important topics related to human rights and citizenship. The project will be implemented in rural areas and quilombola communities in the municipality of Água Fria, in Bahia (BA).

The five educational projects included in the 4th Education with Citizenship Initiative planned to last at least six months, may be extended for two more months. These projects aim to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations, with emphasis on the following subgoals: 4.2; 4.5; 4.6; 4.7; 4.c. For a detailed and comprehensive understanding of these subgoals, please refer directly to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Each project was chosen based on its potential to generate widely significant impacts in their communities. With initiatives like these, Instituto Chamex proceeds with its mission to promote active citizenship and social inclusion, supporting and incentivizing catalytic social educational actions for change in Brazil and reinstating its philosophy that creativity is the foundation to transform education, and education is the way to transform the world.
