Aiming to further improve the development and performance of the students, Sylvamo in 2022 decided to establish a partnership with SENAI (National Service of Industrial Apprenticeship) to incorporate a new teaching format for the project. Since then, three new classes wereinitiated. The first one in April included 16 youngsters in the municipality of Luiz Antônio (SP), the second in May enrolled24 students in the city of Mogi Guaçu (SP), and the third – and most recent – was in August, by which 8 participants joined the course inTrês Lagoas (MS).

The project – now called Chamex School Program – is aimed at youngsters in a situation of social vulnerability who finished middle school and are looking for opportunities in the labor market. The classes in Três Lagoas (MS) are being administered by volunteer educators during the morning and SENAI instructors in the afternoon classes. The objective is to acquaint the students with the operation of the Sylvamo plant and to train them to perform as Production Assistants. In the coming weeks, the students will already be working in operations, adding practical knowledge to this journey of studies.

During the course, besides taking part in theoretical and practical classes, behavioral competencies will also be developed to help in the formation of conscientious, ethical, and responsible professionals. The students also count on theMire-se no Exemplo program (Copy the Example), where Sylvamo leaders function as mentors for those youngsters, with the objective to incentivize the apprentices to become protagonists of their own careers. Based on all these different aspects, Escola Chamex influences – notably – in enabling the first job among course participants, whether inside or outside Sylvamo, increasing their employability chances.

To continue designing, investing, and nurturing socio-educational projects like this is what makes Instituto Chamex comply with its legitimate mission to promote education, culture, knowledge, and creative professional education, creating opportunities, proposing more citizenship and contributing both for the development of local communities, as for the society in general.
